Suzano Pulp and Paper elected Brazil’s “Best Company for Starting a Career”

Participation & Autonomy, Processes & Organization and Sustainability & Diversity were some aspects highlighted by Suzano’s young talent

São Paulo, September 6, 2017 – Our company, was elected “Best Company for Starting a Career in 2017,” based on a ranking complied by the magazine Você S/A in partnership with the business school Fundação Instituto de Administração (FIA). With a Happiness at Work Index (IFT Jovem) of 84.1, we beat out the 247 other companies vying for the award. SOur company score was 9.8 points higher than the Young Happiness Index (YHI) registered in 2016.

The award assesses the people management practices for professionals up to 26 years old and tries to understand the expectations of young professionals entering the labor market. The main study of its kind in Brazil, the survey is based on general information on the organization and 12 categories that verify the HR policies and practices adopted by companies.

According to Julia Fernandes, People & Management Executive Officer, the recognition attests to the company’s commitment to promoting a more inspiring and challenging environment that encourages personal and professional development. “Our greatest value lies in our people. At Suzano, we encourage everyone to take on new challenges, make bold decisions and take charge of their development and careers. This without a doubt is the best way each employee can help build a better company day after day,” she said. “We see this recognition as the result of the work of more than 8,000 employees, who are young professionals aged from 25 to 70,” she added.

In addition to its top ranking overall, we excelled in various categories, including Participation & Autonomy, Processes & Organization and Sustainability & Diversity. Aspects analyzed by the categories include employee participation in company decisions, how much the organizational structure facilitates employees’ actions and how the organization balances economic, social and environmental performance.

Roberto Merker, Customer Service intern, believes the biggest advantage of working in our  company is the freedom and autonomy enjoyed by young professionals. “I feel like the owner of the company. Here I have an opportunity to play a lead role in my career.” He tells how, from the beginning, he was immediately immersed in the company’s activities and big projects. “Working at Suzano is inspiring while also challenging. I’m motivated to give my most every day,” he added.

A result of this policy, the Engagement Survey conducted by us this year showed that 95% of our employees are proud to belong to the company and recommend us as a good place to work. The general favorability index reached 82% and, in all, nine out of ten employees feel personally fulfilled with their work at our company.
