Planting a better future for the community in which it is present. Suzano is concerned with much more than just environmental preservation. Its commitment to social development of the community in which it is present can also be greatly noticed with its accomplishments, be it sponsoring cultural activities, investing in environmental education or supporting less favored communities. It was this social commitment that led Suzano to create, in 1999, the Ecofuturo Institute, a non-governmental organization whose objective is to promote sustainable development in Brazil. The program "Reading is a Must", carried out by the Institute, aims to develop a society which actively reads and writes by developing actions that promote the democratization of access to knowledge and cultural assets. Another important initiative of the Institute is the upkeep of Parque das Neblinas (Mist Park), a preserved area of 1,332.82 hectares of Atlantic Rainforest in the state of São Paulo open to the public for environmental education and Ecotourism. In addition to the Ecofuturo Institute, Suzano promotes important projects for education, health, culture and environmental awareness that are already obtaining excellent results in the communities surrounding its mills and forests. They are: Citizen Educate, Plant a Seed Project, Golfinho Community Foundation and the Paineiras Health Network. Through all of these initiatives Suzano believes it is playing its role as a company committed to fulfilling its citizenship, and collaborating towards a better and more just society.
