We are part of the Suzano Group that has invested in the pulp and paper sector for 85 years. We are a forestry-based company and one of the largest vertically integrated producers of pulp and paper in Latin America, with global operations in roughly 80 countries. We are committed to developing both our business and the communities surrounding our facilities and preserving the environment. We adopted a management model that considers the three main dimensions of sustainability: business, society and the environment.
Our main products, sold on the domestic and international markets, are eucalyptus pulp, printing and writing paper (coated and uncoated) and paperboard.
We are number one in the Latin American paperboard market. We are one of the 10 largest producers of market pulp in the world and the second largest producer of eucalyptus pulp in the world. This achievement was possible thanks to the growth cycle completed in 2007, a fact that paved the way for the increased production capacity. In 2008, the forecast is for 2.8 million tons, 129% of growth when compared to the performance in 2004.
Our five industrial units are located in the States of Bahia and São Paulo. Our largest integrated pulp and paper unit is located in Mucuri, in the southern region of Bahia. Three mills are located in Suzano, Rio Verde and Embu, in the state of São Paulo. Conpacel (São Paulo Consortium of Pulp and Paper) is located in Americana, São Paulo, of which we have a 50% shareholding. Our sales office is located in the city of São Paulo (SP) and our headquarters are in Salvador (BA). The overseas sales structure consists of operations in England, USA, Shanghai, Switzerland and Argentina.
All our production is derived from renewable eucalyptus forests planted in the southern region of Bahia, the northern region of Espirito Santo, the interior of São Paulo, the northeastern region of Minas Gerais and Maranhão, with a native forest conservation area which covers approximately 40% of our land. In 1986, we were the first Brazilian company to begin producing paper using ECF (elemental chlorine free) pulp.
As of 2015, with the organic growth announcement, Suzano Papel e Celulose will increase production from the current 2.9 million tons/year to 7.2 million tons/year by constructing three new industrial plants – in Maranhão, Piauí and a third undefined location. The installed capacity at the Murcuri Unit will also be optimized to manufacture an additional 400,000 tons/year. |
