Brazil authorizes Suzano-Fibria deal; EU to analyze merger

The Brazilian anti-trust authority Cade on Oct. 11 approved the merger between the country’s two leading pulp producers Suzano and Fibria. The green light was a mandatory step for the conclusion of the potential deal, which can create a global leader in the bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) market with capacity to supply 11 million tonnes/yr.

Cade approved the combination of Suzano and Fibria without restrictions, meaning that the new company will not be subject to any remedies or forced to sell assets.
