We believe that sustainability is the capacity to allow for renewed cycles of growth. This requires building the foundation for an expansion that combines competitive operations, social environmental responsibility and quality relationships.

Ecofuturo Institute

The Ecofuturo Institute is a nonprofit organization. It was founded in 1999 by the Suzano Group, whose main sponsor is Suzano Papel e Celulose. The Institute coordinates activities between civil society, government and the private sector to expand social environmental awareness by spreading knowledge, stewardship practices and impact measurement. In line with these aims, the Institute fosters projects that contribute to promoting literacy and environmental conservation.

Parque das Neblinas (Mist Park)

This forest reserve is maintained by Suzano Pulp and Paper and managed by the Ecofuturo Institute. It is located between the cities of Mogi das Cruzes and Bertioga, right next to the Serra do Mar State Park, in the state of São Paulo. Recognized by UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme as an Outpost for the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve, the reserve is home to a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN). Covering 6,100 hectares, the Park protects the Itatinga River basin and promotes scientific research, forest stewardship, social environmental education, biodiversity, restoration of the Atlantic Forest and community relations. It is open to visitation by the public.

Community Library

Learning to read and write is the foundation for an education of quality and the development of critical awareness. The community library program helps to define and implement public policies for literacy and libraries. Its goal is to increase access to books and enforce Law 12.244/10, which establishes that all educational institutions in Brazil, whether public or private, must have libraries by 2020. Ecofuturo works in partnership with the government, the private sector and local communities to create libraries in public schools that are open to the community and frained by the Institute to promote reading.
