Suzano, the world's largest pulp producer and a global benchmark in eucalyptus-based bioproducts, maintains a series of initiatives in Mucuri aimed at preventing and combating violence against women, children, and adolescents. These actions strengthen awareness among employees, service providers, and communities and are part of the "Agente do Bem" Program, a corporate initiative dedicated to promoting human rights and addressing various forms of violence.
The program involves awareness-raising actions, training of multipliers, and coordination with protection networks in the territories where Suzano operates. In addition to Bahia, "Agente do Bem" is also implemented in states such as Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Maranhão, São Paulo, Tocantins, Ceará, and Pará.
Key areas of focus include addressing abuse, sexual exploitation, and child labor involving children and adolescents, as well as preventing and combating physical, psychological, sexual, financial, and moral violence against women. According to Kariny Paiva, Suzano's Social Relationship consultant, these initiatives aim to foster a culture of respect and protection both inside and outside the company. “Our goal is to mobilize employees, leaders, and partners to strengthen the protection of human rights and contribute to even healthier and more responsible relationships in the territories where we operate,” she states.
Actions during the General Shutdown.
During the General Shutdown (PG), held in May at Suzano's Mucuri unit, the "Agente do Bem" Program promoted a series of actions with workers. The PG is a period of
factory maintenance that mobilizes thousands of professionals, many of whom come from other regions of the country.
In total, over 980 workers were reached with the distribution of informative materials on preventing violence against women, children, and adolescents. The topic was also addressed in Daily Safety Dialogues (DDS) and discussion circles with the unit's Safety Committee.
Awareness campaigns
Throughout the year, Suzano conducts internal awareness campaigns, such as "Maio Laranja" (Orange May), dedicated to combating the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. At the Mucuri unit, the campaign reached over 4,700 people through content disseminated on its internal channels. Another planned initiative is "Agosto Lilás" (Lilac August), focused on raising awareness and combating violence against women.
In addition to campaigns, the company promotes discussion circles and educational meetings with specialists, broadening understanding of the signs, impacts, and forms of support related to situations of violence. Suzano also provides internal and external reporting channels, ensuring the safe and confidential reporting of potential cases.
