7 ideas for easy recyclable toys to make at home

The following are ideas for sustainable play to awaken environmental awareness in children and to bring the family closer together, promoting moments of fun and joint learning.

1. Cardboard box house and cart

House play is a classic that enchants boys and girls of all ages. Do you know that big cardboard box that was left over from the last purchase? With a stiletto and a little creativity, you can transform this box into a complete little house, with doors, windows and even curtains made from scraps.

The same can be done when building a stroller. In addition to the windows, cut out wheels and glue them to the bottom of the car. Let the kids decorate with gouache and pens.

The fun here is not in the final product, but in the entire family-building process. “This type of play creates a deep emotional connection between parents and children, promoting a closer and more meaningful relationship,” explains Gerusa, pedagogue, early childhood educator and parent.

2. Pinball or Cardboard Arcade

3. Dolls and animals from toilet paper tubes

Toilet paper rolls are an excellent raw material for creating dolls and animals. With dried leaves, dyes, twine, and buds, you can bring an entire forest of animals to life — such as lions, foxes, and even mythological creatures, such as dragons, why not? Paint the rolls, glue eyes made of caps, and use crepe paper to make manes, wings, and fire coming out of the mouth.

4. Tissue box piggy bank

Tissue boxes can also gain a new use: turning them into piggy banks! With a few cutouts and a touch of creativity, kids can personalize their own piggy banks, decorating them with paints and stickers.

5. Snake or Roller Centipede

Put together several rolls of toilet paper and/or Paper towel, drill small holes at the ends and tie them together with twine to create a snake or centipede. Paint each segment with different colors and make fun eyes and mouths for the animal. The more rolls, the longer the snake will be, making the game even more interesting!

6. Finger puppets made of paper tubes

Finger puppets are great for creating characters and stories. Use rolls of toilet paper, whole or cut in half, and decorate them with colored paper, pens, and fabrics.
